2012 Tasmanian Tourism Conference - Speaker Profile
Martin Flanagan
Senior Writer for The Age NewspaperConference Dinner Guest Speaker - 7:30pm
Martin Flanagan is one of Australia's best loved journalists and story tellers.
Born in north-west Tasmania in 1955, Martin graduated with a law degree from the University of Tasmania before joining the Examiner as a reporter in the late 70s.
In 1985 he moved to Melbourne to write for the Age, and over the last twenty five years has emerged as one of this Country's most prolific writers on Australian Rules Football, Sport, Politics, Australian Culture, Indigenous Australia and, of course, his homeland Tasmania.
Martin is the author of 12 books, including his memoir, 'In Sunshine or in Shadow: A Memoir About Going Home' on growing up in regional Tasmania, and 'The Line', a book Martin co-wrote with his 90-year-old father, Arch, on Arch's experiences as a Burma Railway survivor.
This is a rare opportunity to hear from one of Australia's most celebrated writers on a topic close to his heart - Tasmania, and its opportunity to shine in the world. Martin has promised an entertaining, but thought provoking address that should stir the soul of every Tasmanian with a sense of love and appreciation of home.
