Explore our parks and reserves with the Summer Discovery Ranger Program 2016/17

Parks and Wildlife's Summer Discovery Ranger Program runs during the peak summer period - 27 December 2016 to 29 January 2017 - and offers visitors to Tasmania's national parks the chance to join in a wide range of activities such as guided walks, evening talks, childrens' activities and much, much more.

Now in its 38th year,  the program continues to expand and innovate. This year will see the highly qualified team of Discovery Rangers working their magic at:
Western Tasmania
North-west(from Arthur-Pieman Conservation Area to Rocky Cape)
Cradle Mountain
Northern coast (from Wynyard to Greens Beach)
North-east (from Bridport to Mt William/wukalina)
Bay of Fire (from Mt William/wukalina to Scamander)
Freycinet and Bicheno
Maria Island and Triabunna
Tasman and Forestier peninsulas 
Bruny Island and Conningham
Mt Field


Discovery Days are scheduled for:

Sunday 1 January - Devonport Discovery Day
12pm–3pm, Coles Beach (western end car park) All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show Rockpool Rambles Discovery Ranger children’s activities, and more.

Friday 6 January - Triabunna Discovery Day

10.30am–1pm, The Village Community Centre All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show Aboriginal kelp bowl making workshop & cultural conversations Discovery Ranger and Fishcare children’s activities Arts and craft workshops 

Friday 6 January - Bicheno Discovery Day
2-5pm, Bicheno Hall All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show An afternoon full of fun activities for all ages.

Saturday 7 January - Dunalley Discovery Day 
11am–3pm, Dunalley Hall Live music by JAX and BAT, All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show, Aboriginal kelp bowl making workshop & cultural conversations, Discovery Ranger and Fishcare children’s activities, Arts and craft workshop, BBQ lunch and more 

Sunday 8 January - Adventure Bay Discovery Day
Adventure Bay Hall & beach
11am: paddle boarding for everyone – Bruny Island Boat Club 
12pm: BBQ lunch and Discovery Ranger children’s activities
1pm: All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show 
2pm: Aboriginal kelp bowl workshop and cultural conversations 

Saturday 14 January - Scottsdale Discovery Day
 
10am–1pm, Scottsdale LINC All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show, Discovery Ranger and Fishcare activities, Aunty Patsy’s Aboriginal cultural workshop using wood, fibre and kelp to make music, sticks and bowls

Saturday January 14 - Ansons Bay Discovery Day
2–4pm All About Reptiles's live snake & lizard show, Discovery Ranger children’s games, Fishcare activity 

Friday 27 January - Smithton Discovery Day

10.30am–3pm, Smithton LINC All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show Discovery Ranger, Cradle Coast NRM and Fishcare activities, Live music and BBQ lunch, Facepainting, balloons and more

Saturday 28 January - Zeehan Discovery Day

11am–2pm, Town Hall All About Reptiles’s live snake & lizard show, Discovery Ranger & Zeehan Neighbourhood House family activities, Zeehan Gem and Mineral Fair, fundraising, BBQ lunch


Bilingual Discovery Rangers

In addition, bilingual Discovery Rangers will be at Freycinet, Mt Field and Cradle Mountain. They will provide on the ground assistance and highlight the wonders of these parks to Chinese visitors.
